THE DURHAM BRIEF

Monday, March 9, 2026  ·  Durham Region, Ontario

It's Monday, which means you've got exactly five days to decide whether you're a mandala rock person or a country music person (or, mysteriously, both). This week we've got a Lotus workshop in Bowmanville, an Adele tribute show in Oshawa, and enough euchre and crafts to keep you occupied through March break. Turns out there's always something happening in Durham, even if nobody's talking about it.

Durham Region Health Department alerting the public of two new confirmed cases of measles

Durham Radio News  ·  Weekend

Durham Region's measles outbreak is now three cases - all in one household, all unimmunized kids (which, yes, is the pattern here). The health department is investigating exposure points and reminding people that measles spreads fast and hits hard. Turns out "personal choice" on vaccines has community consequences.

Bowmanville-4" Lotus at Dusk Mandala Rock or Candle Holder Workshop

Clarington  ·  Tue, Mar 10

You'll paint a four-inch lotus mandala onto either a rock or candle holder at Montana's BBQ on March 10th, which is either the most serene or most chaotic thing you can do in a steakhouse. (The venue serves ribs, not enlightenment, so manage expectations accordingly.) No experience necessary, just show up with a steady hand and whatever spiritual energy you're bringing. You leave with a handmade thing that actually looks intentional, which beats most crafts people attempt after a couple drinks.

Zephyr Scott Lions Eurcher night

Uxbridge  ·  Thu, Mar 12

Euchre night in Uxbridge on March 12, hosted by the Zephyr Scott Lions at 310 Zephyr Rd. It's the kind of event where your bridge skills actually matter and nobody's checking their phone (mostly). The Lions club runs this thing, which means the money goes somewhere useful instead of into a corporation's quarterly earnings report. Shows up if you want to play cards with people who actually know the rules.

Country Music Night - Friday

Uxbridge  ·  Fri, Mar 13

Someone in Uxbridge decided that what March needed was twangy guitars and boot-scuffing at the Trail Hub on Friday the 13th. (Yes, that's an actual date, not a scheduling error.) You'll get live country music, which in Durham either means genuinely talented musicians or your uncle with a Fender he bought in 2003 - possibly both. Check the details for time and cost, unless you're the type who likes showing up to things completely unprepared, in which case, you're already set.

Winter Joy - Driftwood Suncatcher + Air Plant Holder

Uxbridge  ·  Fri, Mar 13

You'll glue driftwood pieces onto a glass suncatcher and build an air plant holder in the same afternoon, which is either efficient crafting or a sign you're running behind schedule. The workshop happens March 13 in Uxbridge (18 Brock St. W., if you know where that is). You leave with two things that actually look intentional on a shelf, which is more than most people manage. Just check the details for timing and cost because apparently that information was deemed too useful for the initial description.

Karma March Break Camp

Ajax  ·  Fri, Mar 13

A March Break camp in Ajax is promising to teach kids about karma, which is either very spiritual or a gentle way of saying "what goes around comes around, so behave." Happening March 13 at 487 Westney Rd S, Karma March Break Camp is billing itself as a space for young people to learn mindfulness and positive action (no word yet on whether sitting still counts as action). The whole thing screams wellness trend, but hey, if it keeps kids entertained for a week, that's its own reward.

Candlelight : Tribute to Adele | Oshawa

Oshawa  ·  Fri, Mar 13

Someone's bringing a candle-lit Adele tribute to BONDST Events on March 13th, which means you'll get to hear "Rolling in the Deep" performed by someone who is, statistically speaking, not Adele. (The venue description helpfully tells us nothing about what to expect.) If you've ever wanted to experience one of the world's biggest voices in a room lit exclusively by fire hazards, this is apparently your moment. Just check the details for actual ticket prices, because the listing certainly won't tell you - mysterious pricing is very on-brand for tribute shows.
